The Year Ten History course has completed. The students undertook the NSW School Certificate Examination in History and Geography yesterday. Feedback seems positive thus far.
The class has been an active, talkative and interested collection of young thinkers. They have been keen, demanding and a challenge at times. Great discussions, good arguments and excellent laughs.
Now, I am going to turn this conversation over to the students.

Enjoyed the history course. Am so excited for modern history next year. Loved the Whitlam dismissal section. I hope the course is retained for the national curriculum. I don’t believe anything should be changed

1. My preferred topics were, the Freedom Rides and the decade of the 50′s
2. I think the course was partially relevant as it dealt with Australian history, but the course can only be relevant to a certain point as it is History
3. The course could be structured in a way where lessons are themed. A lesson on the 50′s could include music from the era and video clips to create an immersive experience
4. I would include important people from Australia and other countries that fit the course guideline

i liked the topic about communism and the vietnam war. i liked it that much when i went to the war museum in Canberra with my dad we went on a tour and i asked the tour guide personally if we could take a tour through the vietnam section because it wasn’t part of the tour.
an improvment might be instead of having heaps of sheets we could do more writing of the time in our book from the board. i learn better like that and the sheets were just to much.
i wouldn’t include anything else because you have to teach what you have to and if you added anything else it would take up time and be confusing when you were in an exam.
Larkin you are a funny treacher with your Elvis Presly moves.
i had a good year!

1. Which were your preferred topics and why?
I don’t favour modern history, therefore none.
2. Do you think the course was relevant? Explain.
Yes, because it was in the school certificate.
3. Which parts of the course do you think could be improved or taught in a more constructive manner? Why?
Less notes, a bit hard to keep track of so many.
4. If you could design a History course for Years 9 and 10 which topics or themes would you include? Why?
None, too much work.

1. Vietnam war and the 1950′s because they were interesting and insightful.
2. Yes it was relevant as it taught us about our history.
3. I think that the course is fine
4. Including other topics such as the Green bans and doing more work on different prime ministers.
