This was quite a process. I backed up the MySQL database initially. I utilised the Control Panel for my host to do a simple back up and then followed that up with a backup using myphpAdmin. I backed up the database file to my hard drive and a thumb drive.
I then backed up the wordpress files on to my hard drive and thumb drive. I deactivated the plug-ins within Wordpress.
Following that I uploaded the new files. Performed the database upgrade which was fine and reactivated the plug-ins. The spam filter had an upgrade which I installed. The permalink structure was updated. It all seems okay and this is the first post… a test if you like. Let’s see how it goes.
