How do you lifestream fellow educators?
April 2nd, 2008

I use Jaiku. A while back I attended a gathering of like minded individuals in Singapore keen on using the net in positive and innovative ways. During the get-together Kevin Lim introduced Jaikus to the group. I thought it was a neat tool. Kevin Lim is an instructional technologist, studying for a doctoral degree at Buffalo University. His web site is well worth exploring.

The Jaiku takes in feeds from my blog, twitter, flickr, last.fm and other sources. It sits on my home page and acts like a What’s New? for my entire site. It is a miniature lifestream I guess.Last October, it was bought by Google. You now have to request an invite to get a Jaiku. It has been like that ever since. What is happening there?

The embed code does not work in a post strangely enough. WordPress strips out some of the code.

Addendum in the afternoon, after school. I added it to the sidebar instead. Looks pretty, eh?  That sidebar is chock-a-block full or crap. Need to clean it up a bit. What should go?

WordPress is a pain, John, so I can insert my Jaiku badge. I’ll probably switch to blogger by mid-year!

John, Jaiku is nice, but this year everyone’s shifting over to FriendFeed.com for some serious lifestreaming action. FF also recently released their APIs. so we should start seeing some neat apps tying in. E.g. FriendFeed WordPress widget at http://g2007.com/blog/gary/index.php/2008/03/27/wordpress-friendfeed-widget/

Hi Kevin, thanks for the reply. I was holding back on FriendFeed. Wait for the dust to settle. I guess I have a sentimental attachment to Jaiku. Cheers, John.

Hi Siva, I could not get the Jaiku to exhibit in a post. I have placed them in the sidebar before when doing workshops. As you may read Kevin is suggesting FriendFeed… See you soon at the MacMeetUp in April.
    Cheers, John.

I think I missed the Jaiku bus. I am a newcomer to the social scene. I do however, thoroughly enjoy using FF and twitter and use have used Twhirl, Alert Thingy, and snitter as desktop apps to receive the posts. For my PLN of educators, I have found more people through twitter, but I beleive that more and more people will embrace FF for the broader view of what others are thinking and doing.
